The new MacBook Pro were not expected until next week, but they are already
available in the Apple Store. Apple has not even closed its online store
for the occasion: this update is pretty minor in the program with new
processors, hard drives slightly larger and more powerful graphics cards
for the 15 and 17 inches. The previous models were dated February if we forget the change of
keys on the occasion of the release of OS X Lion. This review is timely
appointed to the holiday season and it can wait before the release of
Ivy Bridge, the new platform that Intel is behind schedule and will not
be available until early spring 2012 .
It would not be surprised in fact that on this occasion Apple revise thoroughly its range of laptops that has changed little in recent years compared to the MacBook Air.
This new line always contains 4 GB of RAM, but the models are entitled to a few MHz more processor side, while the hard drives go from 320 to 500 GB or 500 to 750 GB of hard drive speeds do not change not: we'll have to record at 5400 t / m.
Here are the basic configurations, with options in parentheses.
* 13-inch MacBook Pro
- Core i5 dual-core 2.4 GHz, 4 GB RAM (8 GB optional) Hard Drive 500 GB (SSD options up to 512 GB), SD card reader - € 1149 / CHF 1299
- Dual-Core Intel Core i7 2.8 GHz, 4 GB RAM (8 GB optional) Hard Drive 750 GB (SSD options up to 512 GB), SD card reader - € 1449 / CHF 1599
* 15-inch MacBook Pro
- Core i7 Quad 2.2 GHz, 4 GB RAM (8 GB optional) Hard Drive 500 GB (SSD options up to 512 GB), SD card reader - € 1749 / CHF 1599
- Core i7 Quad 2.4 GHz (or 2.5 GHz Core i7 for € 250 more), 4 GB RAM (8 GB optional) Hard Drive 750 GB (SSD options up to 512 GB) drive SD Card - € 2149 / CHF 2299
* 17-inch MacBook Pro
o Core i7 Quad 2.4 GHz (or 2.5 GHz Core i7 for € 250 more), 4 GB RAM (8 GB optional) Hard Drive 750 GB (SSD options up to 512 GB), location Express Card - € 2499 / CHF 2599
As expected, prices have not changed, unlike graphics cards models 15 and 17 inches. Apple offers more powerful graphics cards: the 15-inch entry-level is entitled to the old high-end card (a Radeon HD 6750M with 512MB of memory) while the high-end 15-inch and 17 entitled to an inch AMD Radeon HD 6770M and 1 GB of RAM. Both are 13 inches by against the graphics chip Intel HD Graphics 3000.
The MacBook Pro 15-inch and 17 can still benefit from a high-resolution screen (1680x1050 pixels to 1920x1200 or 15.4 inches by 17 inches) optional, it will cost € 100 more to the order to which you can add € 50 for an anti-glare option. Contrary to the rumors suggested, the 17-inch MacBook Pro keeps its single ExpressCard slot, but no SD card reader.
So few changes to the program of this new range that keeps its advantages but also disadvantages. For more information, please read our test models of early 2011. To be continued...
